A Bike, a Winery and an Afternoon of Pure Fun!

We enjoyed a great afternoon with Takaro Trails. (Takaro is the Maori word for play!) We enjoyed an easy terrain, off-road ride from Havelock North to Elephant Hill Estate Winery – where we stopped for a tasting.
Takaro Trails has a range of tours – from the shorter one like we did to three and five-day tours that offer the opportunity to tour Hawke’s Bay on bike, having your luggage waiting for you when you arrive at your accommodations.
It was a real pleasure to cycle along a trail – passing cows and sheep and the occasional dog being walked. Our guide, Carrie-Ann, made the tour fun; she effortlessly read how tough (or in our case – easy) to make the ride.
We went through a couple of small villages, by the ocean and then arrived at Elephant Hill Estate Winery for a tasting. As a producer of premium single-estate Hawke’s Bay wine, Elephant Hill’s vineyard enjoys the spoils of a temperate, dry climate and an extended growing season. Cooled by afternoon Pacific Ocean sea breezes, the vineyard creates wines that display a wonderful fruit purity and elegance.
It was an easy, laid-back afternoon that got us out in the fresh air, had us moving ourselves a bit and refreshed and relaxed us!
Here’s a quick video of how fun it is.

The bike ride looks so fun Ruth and Paul and New Zealand looks so beautiful and clean. We are adding New Zealand to our to-visit list. Enjoy your time there!

There are great prices to New Zealand now Rob. Air New Zealand flies direct non-stop from Vancouver to Auckland. Thanks for the comment.
