Visit Whangarei and Explore the Poor Knights Islands with Dive! Tutukaka

It’s always a treat when I get to connect with my friend Kate, from Dive! Tutukaka. This year at TRENZ, she had some exciting news. Dive! Tutukaka has recently been awarded the Padi Green Star, an award that reflects the environmental responsibility of the company. We were thrilled to hear this and so proud of our friends at Dive! Tutukaka for their commitment to Mother Nature and King Neptune!

One of the interesting things about Dive! Tutukaka (and there are many, many interesting things) is that it is in an exceptionally beautiful and fun-filled region. From sand dunes to volcanic cones, from rolling pasture to craggy headlands fringed by picturesque Pacific beaches, Whangarei offers visitors something for everyone. There are farmers’ markets, amazing restaurants, comfortable and inviting accommodation, surfing, and world-class diving.

It is the only place in New Zealand where you can sky dive and land on a beach. Whangarei boasts an aquatic playground of 100 beaches, pristine harbours and off-shore islands. Visitors can enjoy stunning walkways, or wander among an impressive array of galleries and cafes where international yachts moor near the centre of town.

Twenty-three kilometres off New Zealand’s Tutukaka coast and washed by warm currents swept south from the Coral Sea, the Poor Knights Islands are an international icon. A marine reserve and nature reserve – and pending World Heritage Site – the 11 million-year-old islands’ volcanic origins provide spectacular drop offs, walls, caves, arches and tunnels. Above and below water, the islands are abundantly populated with unique and incredibly varied plant, animal and fish life. Laying claim to an astounding Maori history and the world’s largest sea cave, the remarkable Poor Knights Islands thoroughly deserve their protected status.

For those interested in diving, our friends at the award-winning Dive! Tutukaka do it right. They are New Zealand’s largest dive charter company and their five ocean-going vessels take over 12,000 customers to the Poor Knights Islands every year.

Dive! Tutukaka blends the visual drama of Poor Knights Islands with their passionate people and delivers you a total diving experience.  And all dive boats cater to non-divers. You can take command of a kayak, or don mask and snorkel, and find a whole other way to discover the islands.

People rave about their experiences with Dive! Tutukaka and with their focus on creating a world-class experience and the memory of a lifetime, it’s no wonder why!
