An Awesome Underground Adventure… Simply Amazing!

The Legendary Black Water Rafting Company is New Zealand’s first black water rafting adventure operator. They’ve been sharing thrills and excitement since 1987, and have experienced guides who will take you safely through the stunning underworld of Ruakuri Cave.
Ruakuri, or “den of dogs” as it literally translates into the English language, was first discovered by local Maori between 400 and 500 years ago. It takes its name from the wild dogs that made their home in the cave entrance. Now Ruakuri Cave affords you the rare opportunity to view a snapshot of a limestone underworld that has been 30 million years in the making.
With two exhilarating tours – namely Black Abyss and Black Labyrinth – to choose from, there is something to suit all adventurous spirits. Each Waitomo Black Water Rafting expedition includes 8-12 people, guided by experts who will support and encourage you through the whole breathtaking tour. Their friendly, knowledgeable local guides have helped the Legendary Black Water Rafting Co. achieve an excellent safety record. They can help you step outside yourself and leave with a huge sense of accomplishment.
What began as a special treat for a brave few has developed into a spectacular tourism attraction that gives visitors of all ages the chance to abseil, weave, jump and float through a glowworm-studded subterranean wonderland below Waitomo.
In December, Legendary Black Water Rafting will offer a new heart-pumping adventure – Black Odyssey. Black Odyssey includes “dry caving,” where those up for the challenge rock climb in the cave, zip down flying foxes and much more.
